Sea Gear Marine is in one of the top 3 commercial and sport fishing ports on the east coast of the US. But we came from humble beginnings.
Chuck fell in love…twice.
It was 1977 — the old, Wild West days of the fishing industry — and Chuck Barto fell in love with Renee Genovese. She was the daughter of a fisherman, and when Chuck married Renee, he also fell in love with the adventure of commercial fishing.
Gus teaches Chuck the ropes.
Chuck learned the ins and outs of the trade from his new father-in-law, Augustus "Gus" Genovese, a veteran of almost 40 years. Gus fished, captained, and owned several commercial boats over his career, including his state-of-the-art Bluefin Tuna Purse Seiner.
Sea Gear Marine is born.
Gus sadly and unexpectedly passed away that year in the place he loved most — at the wheel of his newest boat. Chuck and Renee opened Sea Gear Marine in Gus' memory, using his passion and expertise to build a business that would outfit the east coast commercial fishermen.
Still family. Still on the water.
Chuck and Renee grew Sea Gear Marine over the decades through a relentless commitment to people on the ocean. Their sons Peter and Sean grew up in the shop — and that family-business spirit is still at the counter today.
